An Edict from the Queen

Greetings to my loyal subjects!

I can hardly wait to welcome you back to New Orleans. My own children are drifting in at various times on Friday, so I will stay home from 4:00 PM. So if any of y’all are arriving early, wander on over to 921 Chartres, # 9, ph: 595-5044. If you ordered commerative t-shirts, you can pick them up then.

TUESDAY: At 10:00, the Queen will open the door & the gate. Coffee, juice, bourbon milk punch, & King Cake will be served. At 11:00, the Queen will be ensconced in her Royal Chariot. This will allow time for the usual accidents such as the banner falling in the fish pond, the banner poles breaking, etc.

For a final big splurg the Queen has hired a marching band who will arrive at 11: 30, & I don’t want to waste a minute of the music while you fart around with the cart or going to the potty etc. We start as soon as the band arrives.

Since we have a band, this year we will reverse our route, heading down to the lower Quarter to “hail “ people we know; ( the Richardsons on Bourbon, the Ransdells on St.Phillip, etc.) If you get lost from us, we’ll be on Canal St. on the neutral ground in front of the Marriot Hotel when Rex turns on to Canal. After Rex we wander down Chartres back to the Condo at 921 Chartres for a respit & then take off for more toodling in the Quarter. Around 6:00, return to the condo for a bite to eat.

I have a lovely lady.Mary, who will be here to open the door for any Krewe members who need a “time out”. Wear your Krewe bracelet. It’s your I.D. for Mary.

Krewe of Coleen 1974
Charter Members
Recognize anyone?

David Salley sends the following info on hotels:

I have done some research on hotels. Availability doesn't seem to be the issue and rates are the key. Here is what I have so far.

Wyndham Canal Place (good location, on edge of FQ, full service hotel)
2/15 - 189
2/16 - 229
2/17 - 269
2/18 - 269
2/19 - 199
2/20 - 199

Provincial Hotel (right down from Mom's apt)
2/15 - 169
2/16 to 2/20 - 269

La Richelieu (also on Charters St near Mom's apt)
King or Queen only, no room with 2 double beds
2/15 - 150
2/16 - 150
2/17 - 2/20 - 250

Chateau Hotel (half block from Mom's)
2/15 - 180
2/16 - 180
2/17 - 2/20 - 240

W French Quarter (300 block of Charters)
2/15 - 299
2/16 - 2/20 - 339

Note: with the possible exception of the Wyndham, ALL of the above hotels require FULL NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT AT TIME OF BOOKING!!!!

I am checking on a few other places. It looks like the Wyndham might the best deal, although some of the others are more convenient to Mom's apt. The Wyndham is attached to my building and I can probably hook up anyone who stays there and has a car with free parking. Also, I have a contract there and might be able to get a little bit better rate.

Send this email to everyone who you know that might be coming and looking for a room. My thought is that if we book several rooms, they may work with us more on the rates.

Merry Christmas!!!!!!

David

Hotels for Mardi Gras

French Quarter Suites www.frenchquartersuites.com

Be sure to say you're with the Krewe of Coleen. They will give any available discounts, and also will group Krewe Members together, when they register. This is where all the Howell family are staying, Saturday through Tuesday. We’ve stayed here many times and it’s great. Not only does it Include continental breakfast, but all rooms have microwaves, fridge, etc. It’s on Rampart on the North Edge of Quarter. 3 blocks from Bourbon Street and 7 blocks from Queen Coleen’s on Chartres.

Other hotels that we recommend are as follows. Please be aware that during Mardi Gras, hotels generally require 4-5 day minimum, and often require cash deposits.
